History And Current Situation

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Transport Authority was established by the relevant charter involves the establishment of this Authority Act No. 1 of 1994 .

Our institute is installed under Chief Minisrty of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council and basically consist of passengers, Bus Owners, Drivers, Conductors and Staff of Transport Authority. The head office is situated in Kegalle and the District office is established in Ratnapura.

Regulation of passenger transport

Passenger transport is a power vested in the Provincial Council with the establishment of provincial councils in 1987. The Act No.1 of 1994 made provision for the establishment of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority for the exercise of this power in the Sabaragamuwa Province. The Authority carried out the following functions and functions under the purview of the Authority

Increasing Passenger safety

Providing security for passengers traveling in the province, subject to the regulations and conditions of the NTC and provincial statutes and rules of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council is a major underpinning of this organization. Drivers / conductors will be trained accordingly. Providing continuous certifications for buses, issuing medical certificates for buses, issuing certificates of competency for drivers / conductors, providing security in the bus, transporting the passengers.

Provision of quality passenger transport

Improve the service provided to commuters in the bus, conduct drivers and conductors training programs and carry out programs for developing the attitudes of the employees, Promoting high quality songs for school children and adults, Regulating and monitoring busses using GPS technology and CCTV camera systems, construction of bus stands,implementation of a Public Complaints Unit are some of the functions performed by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority to establish a quality passenger service.

Employee welfare

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority has introduced various programs for employee welfare. Under this, the welfare society for the employees provides financial support for the funeral, marriage and other needs of the employees and keeping and maintaining funds for those charity work. Various training programs and quality circles provide direct support for their problems.
